Cliffside Elopement on the Oregon Coast

One of my favorite days of 2024 was when I was able to photograph a stunning cliffside elopement on the Oregon Coast. The southern Oregon coast has held a special place in my heart from the first time I went there. It’s hard to explain, but every time I go there, I feel like I’m coming home. Only a half hour away from the northern Redwoods, I think it is the dreamiest place for an elopement. All within a short drive you can see the ocean, beautiful cliffs, insane sea stacks, and redwood forests.

With its misty mornings, sleepy charm, and dramatic coastal views, it’s a photographer’s dream. So, when Bella and Josh chose Samuel H. Boardman State Park for their cliffside elopement on the Oregon Coast, I was beyond stoked. This place, with its blend of romantic charm and mystery, was the perfect setting for their intimate celebration.

We met at the trailhead on a crisp, foggy morning in January. Bella and Josh had decided to keep things simple yet meaningful, inviting only their two closest friends—Josh’s best friend, who would officiate, and Bella’s best friend, their witness. Bella and Josh wore hiking boots with their wedding attire and weren’t afraid to get messy, so the hike was super chill.

The path was lined with towering trees, their branches forming a natural archway that felt spooky but magical. After a mile or so of hiking, the forest gave way to an open grassy cliffside. The view was absolutely insane—a panorama of the ocean, dotted with dramatic sea stacks.

Bella and Josh stood hand in hand on the cliff, the light perfectly diffused by the overcast sky. They read their vows which were sweet and simple yet so profound and meaningful. Exchanging rings amidst such a stunning backdrop was truly magical.

After capturing some beautiful photos around the cape, we descended to the beach. Bella and Josh, ever the adventurers, were ready to dive into the waves—even in their wedding attire. Watching them frolic in the water, their laughter mingling with the sound of the surf, was pure joy. The images we captured on the beach are among my absolute favorites—full of spontaneity and genuine happiness.

One moment, in particular, stood out. Josh, thinking no one was watching, casually picked up a small rock from the shore and slipped it into his suit pocket. It was such a sweet and unplanned gesture, a keepsake from their special day. These little details are what make each wedding unique and personal.

Bella and Josh weren’t just clients—they were kindred spirits who embraced the day with a spirit of fun and adventure. They fully immersed themselves in the experience. Their willingness to get wet, dirty, and be completely in the moment made their elopement all the more memorable and I can’t imagine a more perfect location for this cliffside elopement on the Oregon Coast.

A few weeks later, I received a thoughtful gift from Bella. The gesture was a perfect reminder of why I love what I do. Their elopement was so meaningful to me. It was a celebration of love in one of my favorite places on earth.

This day will forever stand out in my memory as one of the most special and enjoyable weddings I’ve ever photographed. Bella and Josh’s elopement was a perfect blend of adventure, romance, and personal touches that made it truly unforgettable. Here’s to more days like this—where love and nature come together in the most beautiful ways and I’m able to capture another cliffside elopement on the Oregon Coast.
