Cliffside view at Sea Ranch Lodge on the Sonoma Coast

Baylie and Cat’s Sea Ranch Lodge wedding was set along the Sonoma cliffs on a gorgeous spring day, and I had the enormous honor of photographing it.

Sea Ranch Lodge is one of the most unique coastal wedding venues in Northern California, known for its modern wood architecture and unobstructed views of the Sonoma Coast. It offers a setting that feels both elevated and deeply connected to the landscape—especially suited for couples drawn to intentional, nature-forward celebrations.

One thing I love about Sea Ranch is it feels quietly removed from everything else and entirely its own. The ocean stretches out before it, the architecture blends into the landscape, and the entire space feels calm and grounded. It was the perfect setting for the kind of intentional, relaxed day Baylie and Cat envisioned.

Another thing that makes a Sea Ranch Lodge wedding so elevated is how seamlessly everything flows. From the getting ready spaces to the ceremony site and reception areas, everything feels connected to the landscape. The views of the Sonoma Coast are constant and ground the entire experience.

Getting Ready at Sea Ranch Lodge Wedding

The morning was calm and intentional as Baylie and Cat got ready with their families in one of Sea Ranch’s modern lodges. Wood panels lined the walls and everything had a faint scent of cedar.

Soft light came in through the windows overlooking the coastline while they got their hair and makeup done and music played in the background. The dress was steamed, details were laid out, and everyone spent the morning relaxing and laughing together.

First Look on the Sonoma Coast

Once Baylie’s hair and makeup was done, Cat stepped outside while Baylie got into her dress, a gorgeous off-the-shoulder gown with a full, flowing skirt.

Their families watched from a distance, giving them space, but the excitement was still so present—it was such a meaningful moment to be part of.

Cat had her suit custom made with their initials stitched in, and Baylie chose to wear her hair in a high ponytail after Cat had told her early in their relationship how much she loved it that way. Every detail felt thoughtful and intentional.

When they saw each other, they couldn’t stop smiling and just kept looking at each other. They were truly giddy.

Redwoods Portraits at Armstrong Redwoods

After their first look, we drove up the coast to Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve.

Going from the open coastline to the redwoods added so much variety to their portraits and completely shifted the atmosphere.

They shared private vows tucked into the trees, just the two of them. It was quiet, peaceful, and gave them space to slow down and focus on each other in a way that felt really personal.

The stillness of the redwoods created such a contrast from the openness of the coast. It allowed the day to settle for a moment and brought a different kind of calm. It’s one of the reasons I love incorporating both environments into a wedding day—it adds not just visual variety, but a completely different emotional tone.

Armstrong Redwoods offers a completely different feel from the coastline—tall, quiet, and shaded, with soft filtered light that photographs beautifully throughout the day. For couples getting married along the Sonoma Coast, it’s one of the best nearby locations to add this kind of variety to their wedding portraits.

Cliffside Ceremony at a Sea Ranch Lodge Wedding

Their ceremony took place back at Sea Ranch, overlooking the ocean in the gorgeous Barn Meadow. The Barn Meadow at Sea Ranch Lodge overlooks the cliffs and ocean, creating a ceremony space that feels open, natural, and incredibly peaceful.

It was intimate—just their closest people, seated in the grass with the coastline stretching out in front of them.

They incorporated a wine sealing ceremony, placing a bottle away to open on a future anniversary. Afterwards, we stayed out for portraits as the sun dropped lower.

The light softened, everything turned gold, and the entire space felt almost unreal. We sent the drone up for a few frames, capturing the cliffs, the ocean, and the two of them in it all.

Dinner in the Solarium at Sea Ranch Lodge

Dinner was held inside The Solarium, with windows wrapping the space and overlooking the ocean cliffs.

As the sun set, the room filled with a warm glow. Cat had imported Baylie’s favorite orange wine from France, which felt like such a thoughtful detail.

Florals by Empress Floral Co carried through the space—organic, textural, and really in line with the surroundings.

The evening stayed relaxed. They did a casual cake cutting, heard speeches from their brothers, and shared a few toasts.

After the Last Toast

Later that night, after everything had wrapped and I made it back to my Airbnb, I stepped outside and looked up.

The sky was completely clear—filled with stars in a way you don’t get to see very often anymore, being so far from light pollution.

I ended up photographing it and adding it to their gallery. I hope they find it meaningful to have a photo of the stars on the night of their wedding day.

Final Thoughts

Baylie and Cat were really intentional with their day, from the quiet getting ready moments to an intimate dinner shared with their family and everything in between. Everything felt like them and reflected their love in a way that felt effortless and true.

They were present, happy, and fully themselves the entire time—it all felt easy and deeply joyful. As a photographer, days like this are always a reminder of how much environment shapes a wedding. The light, the textures, and the pace of the day all felt aligned, which made everything feel natural and effortless to document.

I’m so grateful I got to be there to document it. It felt like the perfect reflection of a Sea Ranch Lodge wedding—intentional, grounded, and deeply connected to the coast.
